Catching Up

Happy St. Valentine's Day to you all.  We have been in Boot Key harbor for about a week and just signed up for another week.  We have friends here from when we were in Okinawa and from the FWYC and maybe more coming to visit from Fort Walton.  All good reasons to stick around.  Plus there is a lot to do and see in the keys.  Have bus pass and bikes will travel.  This will get us caught up for a few days in the next several posts. First, some from our day trip by bus to Key West.  Demaris and Kelley were neighbors, friends, fellow church members, babysitting swappers and generally awesome people when we were in Okinawa in the early 90s.  Demaris is almost exactly one month younger than I am so another bond.  Now retired from the Army, they spend winters in their fifth-wheel in the Key West area.  We have kept up over the years and really enjoyed seeing the sights from a "locals" perspective.
This statue of the conch blower seemed appropriate with David in the background.  You can also see the marker for the southernmost point of pavement in the U.S.

The super crowded harbor in Key West.  These boat captains must have a lot more manueuvering skills that we have to get such big boats in such tight fairways.

The customs house off of Mallory Square.  We didn't stay for sunset this trip as we had a 2 hour bus trip back and didn't want to be back at the boat after 11.  We've been for the buskers before so not too sad.

The harbor walk is full of trendy shops and places to eat.

This is the key lime pie at Blue Heaven.  A funky little place that is part restaurant, part gift shop,
part event space part bar, part ????
