Up the Coast

We had the most fantastic sail from Key Biscayne up to Lake Worth Inlet.  We managed to find the edge of the Gulf Stream and with minimal wind we still made 7-8 kts of boat speed.  The wind was from the perfect quarter so it wasn't an uncomfortable ride at all.  This was the kind of day that reminded us of why we loved to sail.  We've been short of this kind of day so it was greatly savored and appreciated!  We came into the inlet in the afternoon with plenty of time to get settled. Friends from Boot Key were already there and helped guide us to a good spot near them.  It was a bit dodgy getting there due to low tide and we found the bottom more than once.  We were always able to back off the sand and finally made our way and anchor.  We spent the evening on their boat and had a great time catching up.  They have made the decision to sell their Catalina 42  that they've owned for 14 years and try out other adventures.  We wish them well and are grateful for all they shared with us about going up the coast.  The area is super congested with pleasure boaters, commercial shipping and cruise ships.  It is the closest point to the Abaco Islands in the Bahamas so it is a popular port for embarkation and return.  It was a great spot for people watching.  We had planned to go to Mass on Sunday but google was off by over 2 miles on their directions.  When I finally checked the parish website and saw the actual location it was too late to get a ride.  Hopefully next Sunday will work out better!
An added bonus to the trip was catching this Mahi.  It provided each of us 3 meals.
Nothing better than fresh!

One of the many commercial ships in the yard at the mouth of the inlet

The inlet is wide, deep and straight making it ideal.

We went by this one marina that was for boats visiting from out of the
country.  They had several huge yachts completed tented and under some stage
of work.  It was megayacht row with boats from all over the Caribbean.

Money row.

Our friend's boat, Obsession.  A very appropriate name for
any boat.

Peanut Island is a park at the inlet.  Is was covered in small boats with
families on the morning we left.
