Newport Around Town

We obviously really got out to see as much as possible in the short time we had to visit Newport.  We were also fortunate to have our friends Janice and David help us with advice, good company and a willing set of wheels with driver attached!  We met them in Boot Key what seems like eons ago and met up with them at several stops along the way.  This is their home waters and they generously shared their knowledge of all things New England and especially Rhode Island.
David and Janice invited us to join them for a free concert at Fort Adams.

A yard party that we didn't get invited to.

Being several hundred years old in some parts, the streets are very narrow
and all one-way.

A view of part of the Newport Harbor.

Ships' Captain row.  Lots of money in successfully delivering
cargo around the world.

The main street through the old waterfront area.

One of the several parks we rode past,  This is a statue of Admiral Perry
donated to the city by Japan commemorating the 100th anniversary of his
trip to Japan.

A pagoda in the same park.  Also a gift from Japan.

This is a very old ruin of a stone mill.

A closeup of the same tower.  It is over 250 years old.

St. Mary, the church where Jacqueline and John Kennedy were married.

This is where people much closer to our hearts, Paula and Bill were
married a little over 50 years ago.

A really old church it was!

The site of the Naval Academy during the Civil War.  It was felt that
Annapolis was too close to the fighting.

Another view of the harbor at the beginning of one of the many regattas
we saw.

A whimsical house.

A whimsical lantern.

Way up on the yards .

Handling the sails way up there.

The Oliver Hazard Perry is a school for learning how to sail and
maintain a tall ship.

Our raydaome all fixed and being reinstalled!
