Boating at its Strangest

In original plan, we would be in the Chesapeake by June.  As of this date, June 3, 2019, we are still well south of there.  The weather is already becoming hot and muggy and as mentioned in a previous post, very buggy. We have never cruised other than weekends or short trips in hot weather so we were unprepared for some of the challenges. You get creative in finding solutions.
After the initial attack of biting flies, we bought rolls of screen and cut
them to fit the sides of the cockpit.  It made a huge difference even if
it did look a bit redneck.  That song, "I'm rednecker than you" keeps
running through our heads.

I made these shades years ago and we're sure glad to have them.

At one point the temps were over 100 °.  We pulled out the shade awning
I made several years ago, turned on the inverter and sat in the shade with
the fan blowing on us.  It was simply too hot to be inside the boat until
after dark.  I had a cross stitch project to work on and books.

These awesome beach chairs from West Marine were a perfect fit under the boom.

Redneck for sure!

One result of climbing in and out of the boat led to a stupid mistake.
I shut the forward companionway cover over my big toe, peeling the
nail away from the nail bed on 2 sides.  Lesson: Don't hurry and watch
where your big feet are!

The river leading into Charleston was lined with lovely homes.  This
is called the Low Country with good reason.  The docks are long to
cover the distance from the hard shore to the point in the river deep enough
to keep a boat.  All the houses had floating docks since the tide rises and falls
so many feet.

The house is waaayy up in the treeline.  I can only imagine the cost to
build and maintain so many feet of dock.
