The gap between the islands is small but deep with a swift running current. Not one I'd want to have to swim across for my commute. The ferry runs every few minutes and is only $2 each way per person. |
We rode to one end of the island where the airport sits. There was a variety of airplanes from sleek newer jets to planes with 3 flat tires. There is a charter service bringing in tourists |
Bimini Sands marina was well kept and looked great. It's drawbacks were cost and remoteness. |
One of the several canals dug to make more waterfront property at the south end of the island. |
Conch shells were once heavily used in the construction mix. You can see them in this house that is in the process of falling down. |
This house was built in the 30s and abandoned some time in the 70s. |
One more place promising to be the one found by Ponce De Leon. |
It was a deep well and it did have water. A young man had just taken a bottle of water when we arrived. We passed him later smoking a cigarette. I wonder if he saw the irony. |
