Even though I seem to spend a lot of time working the insurance issue, we still have to do chores, pay bills and party. You know, usual cruiser stuff. We were lucky enough to participate in the first annual
Courir de Mardi Gras in Boot Key. Instead of the traditional Cajun method of travel, horseback, we had the beggars arrive by dinghy. They had spent Monday preparing their costumes and they were a sight to see. We weren't able to get a picture of the best one but try to picture a 6 foot tall mermaid with boa, mask and 2 foot tall headdress and sparkly high heels. The meal was a southern treat and we met several new people headed to the Bahamas. We hosted a get together on Blue Moon to share information, routes, etc. So many young people are doing the trip and going beyond. Some people have boat envy, we have a touch of youth envy! Boot key is such an eclectic collection of souls. Some people have been here forever living aboard their boats, others are here only long enough to wait out a storm or reprovision. Some are like us, trying to move on to the next destination but having to iron out glitches. Some people have no interest in maintaining themselves or their boats and other take great pride in keeping everything shipshape and Bristol. Some are on the ragged edge of financial collapse and others seem able to buy whatever they want or need. Yet, the whole place works and you see all types at the hub and parties, enjoying the water way of life and each other.

Another gorgeous sunrise with the harbor in the foreground. |

This is a unique combination of houseboat and a wild imagination. It even has an upper back deck screened with lattice from Home Depot. |

She really got into the costume contest. |
